Woodcutter's Home at the Eibensee Lake

This woodcutters home is the realization of a piece that has spooked around in my head for a long time - years actually. I am not often in the mountains, but when I am, I've always loved these huge rocks that are bigger than houses and trees even - and I always imagined having a small cottage right between them or even built against them.
Woodcutting in Argenta is a really important profession by the way - as you can imagine, almost all of the islands were once covered in woods, except for the smaller parts around Dwarven settlements. So if you need the farmland, want to build trade roads, keep the goblins, wolves, large spiders and other wild animals away from villages between the forests, you'll need many, many woodcutters. As such, it is a respected profession, as it is hard work and as they work on the borders of civilization, which can sometimes be dangerous.
It was a lot of fun to paint the red tones into the rocks, I just love that contrast, it made me grin while painting :D

Golden Cypresses on a hill just kind of remind me of the mounds of Rohan. I know that they just grew flowers on them, but seeing trees like these on hills always makes me assume someone planted them on purpose - and I really like that.

House at the End of the Valley

I wanted to catch this feeling of solitude, not in a negative way - but rather the feeling of living at the end of a valley where you're left alone to enjoy slow mornings or read a book in your garden in the afternoon.
To me, the idea of a single house at the end of a valley feels does not feel distant or alone, but rather really cozy, away from the noise and chaos in cities and sometimes even towns, and I wanted to evoke that calm feeling with this piece. At the same time, it feels like something that is not really completely reachable, which is why we see it from a distance, and behind a wall.

I was largely inspired by the paintings of Swiss painter Hans Emmenegger. I love how simplified his landscapes and trees look - I am definitely not there at all, but it's something to aspire to. After spending years of drawing tiny details in every corner of my art, it feels both strange and liberating at the same time to paint so loosely.

Coast of Buchting

"At the coast of Buchting, you'll sometimes find a gem coming from a dwarven ship that sank years ago. The island of Buchting is a rather remote one in Argenta, or rather, a group of a few islands with the largest one by far being called Buchting Island, as it is the main city on the island. It is a beautiful island, and I like it for its remoteness from the main islands. Buchtinger Wine is also rather known around Argenta, it has a rather fruity taste and you'll find it in the wine cellars of many noble houses."
Writer's House near Dachsburg

"Near the village Dachsburg, a writer and her family inherited her parents home where she grew up. It is the perfect place and secluded enough to work on her novels in peace, but not so far away from the village that it would be inconvenient. Next to the family home, you can see the remains of an old watchtower. When the first human settlers came into this valley, the creek was much broader, and the watchtower protected the waterway that is now gone since the dwarves built a dam further up the valley."

"The Hirschfels region of Argenta is known for its cinnabar mines, and I realized that I never painted one of the red-painted houses that are so typical for the region, so I just had to show it to you. The cinnabar paint contrasts so nicely against the greens of the landscape that almost all houses out there could be worth to be painted, and I love that."

Old Toll Bridge in the Arnas Mountains

As the Arnas Mountains are so strongly split into many, many Baronies and the Durvena Dwarven Kingdom that you’ll find many borders between them, and as the trade routes have to be repaired, rebuilt, freed from roots and weeds, most counties want you to pay a small price if you are on your way with wares. They also serve as watchtowers and sometimes keep out the Goblins from the valleys, or even more seldom keep them far up in the valleys so they don’t come down."

Its caretaker who works for the Royal Mail Aviaries is a lovely elderly woman who tends to give good advice, as many people have talked with her about their problems and told their tales before sending out their letters, which has made her a wise woman, and you'll often find her cat sleeping near her tower."
